Our Ribbons of LifeA Poem by Annie N.In my head I pictured this poem being read in a slam poetry kinda style. To read this poem in any other way would make it not as rhythmic as it's meant to be. And not as good. When I was only 3 And much of the world, Was unexplored, I found myself tumbling down a hole, Spiraling downwards in endless sorrow. Pink ribbons swooped down and caught me Held me close to the world By a tiny strand of life. My tears fell onto their velvet texture But they only wiped the teardrops from my eyes And took me in their tender care, Saved me from an early end Helped me through the ragged rocks And saved me from the world. And even today I wear Those same pink ribbons in my hair In honor of those who have saved me- In honor of those who smile- In honor of the day I almost lost my life- IF IT WEREN"T FOR THESE RIBBONS I WOULD'VE DIED BEFORE MY TIME THESE RIBBONS HOLD ME TO THE VERY GROUND WE WALK ON THE PLEASURE OF LIFE BECAUSE WITHOUT THESE RIBBONS, THE RIBBONS OF PEACE, CALM, JOY, HAPPINESS, KINDNESS, AND LOVE There would be nothing, NOTHING That would bind us together, Like leather with books, Or chains with bikes, And body and soul. For without these Ribbons of life, We would be--- NOTHING AT ALL.
