Tea Leaves

Tea Leaves

A Poem by Annie N.
"

yet another rewrite... wish i could keep my comments. :(

"
I can still remember that summer night,
That cup of green tea in my small little hands.
The tiny pagoda where my family sat,
Surrounded in the jade bamboo.
The tea was warm, steam rising to my face,
And my hands were cold,
Cold, against the porcelain cup.
I took a moment
I took a breath
I took a sip.
I sipped in the bitter tea,
And it was in that moment,
That I sipped in China.
I took a sip of the bamboo leaves, rustling in the wind.
I took a sip of the glittering pond, the waves made by the fish.
I took a sip of the Yellow River, the pebbles carried along.
I took a sip of the fishing boats, at the crack of dawn.
And when I finished,
All that was left,
Were tea leaves.
Soggy little clumps cluttered at the bottom,
Of my memories,
My dreams.

i wanted to thank you for your sweet review of my story Breadcrumbs. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It's the most wonderful feeling in the world to know your writing has touched someone's heart. In that vein, I wanted to return the compliment and was feeling unsettled a bit that i might have to fudge something insincere if i did not like what i read - boy was i wrong! i truly cannot believe you are twelve years old. this poem is a delight to read, sweet and endearing and with a subtle depth. i am in awe! poetry is something that comes very unnaturally to me. maybe your work will inspire me to try my hand at it more. please please please keep writing, for yourself and for the world to enjoy (which it will!) If you like my writing style, I have a couple of books to recommend by my favorite author who i try to emulate in many ways (and fall very short of, of course) - Blue Sword, Hero and the Crown, Spindle's End, and Rose Daughter all by Robin McKinley. Happy reading!

You have captured the magic to be found in drinking tea. Absolutely beautiful writing!

The imagery here is so beautiful and so serene… At the same time, it's realistic and I can imagine doing what you have described here. Nice job.
