Of Paradise and CagesA Poem by Annie N.She peers through bars, and with her eyes, she dreams of a faraway paradise...In a gingham and checkerboard wasteland Her ballad throbs on a gossamer tenor. With melodies wanting lyrics she strides, And so denies the birdsong Of a short-lived splendor. She dares not leave her paradise Unto the wings of birds and fleeting seconds; She dares not seek lyrics In fear that words may set her free. Caged, Her happiness wilts, Lifeless petals in a parched oasis. Like the endless sunsets And rolling hills that grow into mountains, Imperishable snow This eternal paradise is a paradise lost. Freedom too, is its own nirvana Wild and savage Of first impressions, evanescent. She peers through bars, and with her eyes She dreams of a faraway paradise. © 2012 Annie N.Reviews
