courting summer

courting summer

A Poem by anne elizabeth

Twirling
her hair as cool breezes replace warm, tired sighs
Summer
is flirting with the idea of falling

Lost
in cloverless grass
Lazily
counting the cottonwood leaves
Begrudgingly
among the first to light at her feet

A moment
exquisitely exhaled and she's gone
Faint
memories of her quietly covered by faithfully falling snow
Until
an early crocus blooms
Born
of her well rested kiss

Her space
I shall hold
My soul
steadily in wait
