Stuck in a safety net

Stuck in a safety net

A Poem by Carly

Somewhere out there in the abyss
Lie my emotions just floating about
Wishing I would acknowledge their presence
But instead I just leave them hanging
Lingering about
Lost, and missing me

I walk through life in what feels like someone else’s body
On the surface, I appear quite normal
But on the inside I’m really just trapped
With no where to go
Waiting for rescue

If you were me looking in the mirror
You might see a reflection
But you wouldn’t see a soul
You wouldn’t see a whole hearted human
You wouldn’t see a living person
If you were me
You’d wish you had the piece
That everyone else seems to have
The piece that fuels your soul
The piece that is somewhere out there
Floating about
With no intentions of being caught

It’s safer to stay in a bubble
Not ever knowing what feels amazing
Because why would you want to feel
What might eventually crush you
It’s safer to feel nothing
At all

I’ve felt like this before, walking around in a body that isn’t mine. Going through your day as a caricature of yourself fooling everyone but secretly hoping someone sees that you’re faking it. A living ghost. Sometimes moods like this hit me and stay for longer than I’d like. I feel like I empathize with you in this piece.

Thanks for commenting, really appreciate it :)
Wow, this really accurately captures such an elusive feeling that, funnily enough, you would find many of us experience. You really did such a beautiful job gathering descriptions and images that portray the desperate, trapped, uneasy feeling that we get when we sometimes feel incomplete. Very powerful and it flows magnificently. Keep up the gorgeous work!

I don't think it matters if you are moving towards some great all knowing destination in life as long as you know exactly what you want. I am who I am, I don't tend to fit into any crowd and I don't w.. more..
