The KnitterA Story by AnnawritesThis essay is about why knitting is my favorite hobby, how I got started with knitting, and what I love to knit!I am a knitter for about almost four years. I love to knit and knitting is my favorite hobby. I always have knitting needles clicking away in my hands. Rather it’s the traditional socks, scarves, hats, shawls, or anything possibly I can get my hands on-I am knitting it. My favorite projects include socks, blankets, and sometimes preemie hats. I used to not be a sock knitter, but funny to say-I do have multiple socks on the needles. I do not have a clue as to why I have so many socks in my works in progress! Some of the socks are indeed Christmas gifts for my family. I do have to say, I have two pairs of socks for me that I’m working on, which is a bit overwhelming. Blankets are my in my top ten favorite projects to knit. I am currently working on too many blankets at once. At once! Can you guess the total blankets I am knitting? Yes, three blankets all together. That’s crazy talk! I am obsessed with knitting blankets. With blankets you can cuddle with, and I cuddle with them while I knit on whatever blanket I am knitting on at the time. They also keep you nice and warm. Blankets do make amazing gifts, such as wedding gifts. For instance, I knitted my cousin, Heather a circular, spiral, pinwheel, and burgundy blanket. Well I would not say blanket, more likely an afghan. It is the most beautiful blanket I ever knitted. I thoroughly enjoyed knitting on the blanket and sad to see the project come to an end when I was binding off. The afghan went to a good home. I also have fun knitting preemie hats for Neighbors Helping Newborns. Neighbors Helping Newborns helped me begin knitting. Preemie hats are my first projects I ever knitted. An orange preemie hat, with a colorful pom-pom on top was my first project. I am still knitting preemie hats for Neighbors Helping Newborns today. They are currently accepting 30x30 quilts, and blankets. Preemie hats are so small, I cast on about thirty or forty stitches. I use a size 7 US needle with a 12 inch cable length. They are teeny-tiny preemie hats! They are a between project, meaning it gives me a break from knitting big projects such as blankets or afghans. I do like knitting newborn hats, but I rather knit preemie size. They go fast, and great for charities. Knitting is enjoyable to me because I create objects that can be put to use. I just love knitting socks, blankets, and preemie hats! Knitting is also relaxing and helps to relief stress. In winter, I just adore knitting by the crackling fire! © 2012 AnnawritesAuthor's Note
