Beyond the Starry Sky

Beyond the Starry Sky

A Poem by Ann Castor
"

This is for Van Gogh, a great artist neglected in gis time.

"

If I sketched the sunflowers of your soul

Maybe the cornfields will never be again filled with crows

If I could have dined with you in the night cafe

Then you would have been a billiard table away

No one tried to know you to your core

You did not belong to your time, they said you were absurd

If I were just a month away

You could have paired bread with cafe au lait

And not just coffee a la melancholy

When the stars refused to shine.

really, my good friend, all those words for such an artist? anyway, all i could say is that he's got style, style that can pass the test of time. yours, if you'll excuse me, may not. i know that you're attempting to write free verse, since you could do almost anything with it, but i think writing in free verse has its limitations. one should be aware of how far she should go. you have the spark already - the challenge is how to make it sparkle.
