I Wish I Were a Girl!

I Wish I Were a Girl!

A Poem by Ankit Kumar
"

Being a gay man in a country like India isn't easy. Every day, I feel how challenging it is to express my feelings to someone I like. Through this poem, I share my untold feelings.

"

I wish I were a girl,

It wouldn't feel so strange

to be with him,

To hold his hand in public

Without fear of judgment

from the world.

I wish I were a girl,

We wouldn't be labeled as

different,

We wouldn't be seen as

outcasts,

But rather as the ideal pair.

I wish I were a girl,

I could look at men without

making them feel uneasy,

Our shared glances could

mean something,

Our spontaneous talks

could lead to more,

Simply because I'd be the

opposite sex.

I wish I were a girl,

Marriage wouldn't be an

uphill climb,

Love wouldn't feel so

distant.

He would never take me for

granted,

He would never think of

leaving me,

And perhaps, I would have

been the queen he longed

for.

I wish I were a girl,

Maybe my parents would

understand my heart,

And let me choose the one I

love,

Because choosing a man

wouldn't seem so strange.
