Long Distance RelationshipA Poem by Anja BerestetskaWithin long distance relationship‘Baby’ - You calling from Far Away, Your voice jumps Over the ocean With light delay. ‘Hey!’ I’m five hours in the future, 18000 seconds ahead, But how to measure this number Correctly? Instead, I imagine The sunset Mirroring in your eyes, The watch bouncing on your wrist, Your stomach anticipating A tasty dinner: Pasta or sushi, Ding-dong of the keys, Soft sunshine painting your skin, Buzzling metro station, Street lights changing From red to green, The scent of gardenias And gasoline (Why gardenias anyway?) The warmth in the air, Street vendors packing, Your thumb pressing the bottom ‘Play’, The cars passing by, Honking in choir, Your steps Attached to the music, As you walk out of office, Down the hill, Hands in the pockets I hear you smile ‘Baby, I’m here’, 18000 seconds ahead, From other side of the pond Calling me. © 2018 Anja BerestetskaReviews
