Katie Crawfish: A Louisiana Outdoors Adventure

Katie Crawfish: A Louisiana Outdoors Adventure

This one got honorable mention also

"

Katie Crawfish crawled out of her hole

Carrying a brick of mud

To stack on the mound outside

This small crawfish looked at the big Louisiana world

And she had a thought-

“Why don’t I see what my beautiful world has to offer?”

Then she headed toward the nearby lake

Katie Crawfish looked at the fish in amazement.

She saw bass and perch

The fish looked back at the crawfish in amazement.

The crawfish started!

“What are you?” She asked.

A fish replied,

“A fish, what are you?”

The crawfish said back,

“A crawfish, Katie Crawfish.

this is the first time

I have ever met a fish; I’ve only stayed in my little hole!

Nice to meet you, fish!”

Katie went along her way

Next, Katie Crawfish saw a turtle

She looked at the turtle, closer, and closer until

The turtle snapped!

Katie ran for her life and wondered,

“Why was it trying to kill me?”

Katie Crawfish went along her way

Katie Crawfish edged right up to the lake shore,

She met a gator

Katie Crawfish said to the gator,

“How do you do?”

The alligator replied,

“Well now, what’s a crawfish doing here on my bank?”

Katie said back,

“How do you know what I am

When I don’t know what you are?”

The alligator simply replied

“I’ve met many of your kind already,”

And opened his huge, toothy mouth wide.

Katie was so surprised

She scurried along her way

Katie Crawfish remembered her journey

She was happy to know about the place she lives.

Katie Crawfish started walking towards the forest nearby

She heard little birds chirping a lovely tune,

She sat down on a large, flat rock

To rest and enjoyed the sun and the lovely tune.

Katie crawfish looked around the forest some more.

She saw Catahoula Cur, Red Cockaded Woodpeckers, and Water Moccasin in her forest

Then Katie Crawfish decided to go back home

She was home sick

The journey back was the longest walk ever for Katie,

For she had no one to talk to

When Katie Crawfish walked past the shore,

She started to cry.

She didn’t know how to get home.

She cried and cried.

But Katie didn’t know how many friends she had.

Suddenly she looked up

And saw the bass and the perch jumping from the lake,

The turtle looked up to see her,

The Catahoula Cur, Red Cockaded Woodpeckers, and Water Moccasin came to her side

The alligator offering her a ride home on his scaly back.

Katie Crawfish trusted the gator and climbed up his tail.

She watched the beautiful Louisiana scenery

As the gator marched her home.

The lake was reflecting the sun

 “What a beautiful Louisiana sight”

She thought and smiled.

When Katie Crawfish was home

She was happy to be home

Her new friends came to visit her often

She was happy to learn about

The big, beautiful, Louisiana world that she lives in.

Louisiana is hot in the Summer. I did some training there with the Army. A very good story. Sometime good to travel to learn where you live is okay. I like the positive ending to the excellent poem.
