Upside DownA Poem by mi-chanA nonsensical continuation of a stanza I read in a history book."If ponies rode men and if grass ate the cows And cats should be chased into holes by the mouse… If summer were spring and the other way ‘round, Then all of the world would be upside down." If plants watered we and the earth lit the sun And chores did themselves so they needn’t be done… If we’re sad we smile and if we’re happy we frown, Then all of the world would be upside down. If eagles meant death and life was the crow And violins were played with the hand not the bow… If peasants were royal and wore a grand crown, Then all of the world would be upside down. If snow were black and rose from the ground And rope tied us, in knots we are bound… If we were the clothing to be worn by the gown, Then all of the world would be upside down. If fish were to fly and the cats were to swim And people were to give into meaningless whims… If seeking were finding and the lost were found, Then all of the world would be upside down. If water made fire and air formed the trees And humans were yellow with black stripes like bees… If rocks and plants spoke with sound, Then all of the world would be upside down. If man were female and if grass lie in the sky And if a truth was instead a big, fat white lie… If we had a spring on our back to be wound, Then indeed, all of the world would be upside down. © 2011 mi-chanAuthor's Note
