Death Heart

Death Heart

A Story by Emma Larson
"

Haruhi Hitachiin lost her twin brother, Kyouya. It took her a full year to over come all the sorrow she dealt with. Now Hikaru Souh almost an exact copy of her brother has entered her life.

"

It’s been a year now. I used to be the happiest person in all of Japan, but then he died, my twin brother Kyouya. We were the best of friends. After his death I was emotionally struck and didn’t know what to do. We used to do everything together. Now I’m alone.

“Haurhi, please come down for breakfast,” My mother shouted from the bottom of the stairs.

“Give me a minute,” I called back as I quickly pulled my long, black, silky hair into a ponytail. I ran downstairs and sat down at the table across from my father. I reached for the egg sushi rolls, one of my favorite breakfast foods. After I finished those I had some oolong tea, and the cleared my plate.

“What’s with the rush this morning Haurhi?” my Mom asked with a laugh.

“We’re going to go visit Kyouya today Mom. I want to get there as fast as we can.” I ran up stairs and changed out of my blue and black colored pajamas. I was so excited to be visiting my brother’s grave, but very upset at the same time.

The next few minutes passed by as if they never happened. I was rounding up my parents and went to the car as fast as I could. I sat in the back and buckled up. My parents slowly followed behind. My father started up the car and we were on our way.

We reached the cemetery, parked the car, and got out. I was so happy to be seeing him again: but now I don’t know if I can. I remember how I felt when he passed away, my heart hurt too much.

“Mom, I don’t know if I can do this anymore,” I said beginning to tear up.

“Honey, we’re already here. We might as well go,” she replied trying to comfort me knowing how I felt. I slowly walked forward and went up to the grave.

The next morning I went to school and finally calmed down from the day before.

“Ohayo class!” exclaimed my sensei, Ms. Fujoika.

“Today we have a new student. His name is Hikaru Souh. I hope you’ll make him feel welcome.”

That’s when it happened. When Hikaru Suoh walked in that door, all my happiness had vanished.

“Hello,” Hikaru murmured briefly, and was then pointed to his seat.

Why? I kept asking my self. Why? He looks like him, he sounds like him. Why am I being treated this way? Did I do something wrong? Hikaru why are you identical to Kyouya?

The day moved slowly as if it would never end. When the bell finally rang at 4:30 I took a breath of relief. I quickly got all of my things together and ran home.

The next day was very hard for me, but I tried to make the best of it. Knowing he was going to be there made it even worse. He looks like him, he sounds like him, but he’s not Kyouya. The idea still made me tear a little.

At 10:30 it was lunchtime. Today they were serving shrimp tempura sushi and miso soup. They were my absolute favorites, even though my day had been poor so far this made up for it. “Hi, do you mind if I sit here? Every where else is taken.” I looked up to find Hikaru Souh smiling down at me.

“Um…sure go on ahead,” I barely managed to get the words out.

“Arigato,” he replied. He pulled out a chair and sat down.

“Thank you for letting me sit here. I was afraid you were going to say no.”

“Oh…um your welcome,” I happened to smile a bit. He seemed kind, so why was I acting this way? We had a very small conversation. We mainly talked about our likes and dislikes, but we were very similar so it wasn’t very interesting.

The final bell rang at 12:30pm. Since it’s Saturday we got out earlier then on the normal weekday. I decided to walk home at my own pace. On the way I quickly popped in the brand new corner store that went in just last month.

“Thank you! Come again,” the store clerk hollered at me. It had been nearly forty-five minutes since school got out. I should hurry home now; my parents are probably worried, I thought. As I turned down my street I noticed my mother walking out the front door.

“Konnichiwa! Mom,” I called to her and ran to the door.

“Oh my gosh! Where have you been Haurhi?” she asked as she wrapped her arms around me.

“Sorry I guess I walked to slow,” I replied.

“It’s okay. Just be a little quicker next time. Your father is furious though. I’m not quite sure why he got so angry, but be prepared when he gets home. He went out looking for you. I’ll call him to let him know you’re here.”

I followed my mother inside just as it started raining. Ten minutes later my father showed up, and my mom was right. He was definitely angry.

“Where were you?! I was worried sick!” he yelled at me with a small amount of worry in his voice.

“Sorry I walked home slowly. I didn’t think it would bother you,” I said.

“I only have one child, one daughter and you mean so much to me. I can’t help but be over protective!”

“Well maybe you should have another kid! Or get rid of me, because you being over protective all the time is driving me crazy!” At that moment I ran past him and ran out of the house, down the street now soaking wet. I saw an area in a dark, cold alley way were I could keep dry. It soon began to rain harder and got darker. I listened to the rain around me and cried knowing what I had just done was completely stupid.

“Haurhi?” I heard a voice say, “Is that you?”

            “Who is it?” I questioned.

“It’s Hikaru, from school. Why are you here in the middle of the rain?” he asked. I only continued to cry. I saw him come closer to me. He bent down; I could now see the pupils of his light, blue, shining eyes. “Are you going to answer me?” he questioned again.

“I ran away from my house,” I finally cried out.

“What? Why?” I could hear worry in his voice.

“Because my father was yelling at me because I was forty-five minutes late. He’s way over protective and I’m sick of it.”

“Doesn’t that mean he loves you?” I looked up at him.

“Well I guess, but-“ I began.

“ Then what you’re doing is hurting him,” I could tell he was definitely into this topic.

“Why are you here? Why are you talking to me now?” I questioned him.

“I’m here because I was on my way home and I found you. I’m talking to you because you looked like you were lonely and needed someone to talk to. Plus,” he paused, “I kind of have a crush on you,”. I looked up.

“What?” I got up, ran away, and cried. When I reached my front door I realized I shouldn’t of done that. I bet he feels really bad right now. Still damp from the rain, I slowly opened the door and went inside.

On Monday morning I could barely move. I probably have a cold, I thought. I don’t think Mom and Dad are going to let me stay home though. So I got up, got dressed, and headed down stairs. My Mom and Dad weren’t there so they must already be at work. At 7:30am I headed to school. I was afraid of seeing Hikaru, especially since what happened last night.

There he was, Hikaru Souh right in front of me.

“Hey Haurhi. I’m sorry about last night,” he said as he turned around, “I didn’t mean to upset you.”

“It’s okay. It was my fault. I’m the one who got up and ran away,” I stated calmly. “I’ve been dealing with a lot this past year. My brother died, my mother and father were devastated and became over protective of me. You see, you look and sound like my brother. When you first walked in that door, all the sadness and sorrow that I finally began to get rid of, all came back.” He looked at me with a sign of pain on his face. “ So when you said you had a crush on me, I didn’t know how handle it.”

“Oh, I’m truly sorry. I had no idea,” he paused. “Um…well, do you still want to be friends?” I smiled a bit.

“Yeah, I’d like that.” The day went by faster then it ever had before. When I got home I saw my father at the table.

“Oh dad. I’m sorry about last night.”

“Haruhi,” He turned. “No, I’m sorry. You’re right I should be less protective. You’re my only child now so I want to make sure I don’t loose you either. So I’m sorry.” After another few minutes of talking I went up stairs. When it was time to go to bed, I turned off the lights and went to sleep.
