that's where my demons hide

that's where my demons hide

A Poem by Abhilash Hegde
"

find the voice, acknowledge and let go of your demons

"
when the days are dark,
and you're searching for that spark,
let open your ears to that faint voice,
and break out to make that choice.

you may want to hoodwink,
and say it's not worth the think.

but hey, why hide our skeletons?
why not scream your lungs?
move your sucker thumb,
stop being that naive and numb.

so, you may not know,
it's the last call,
time for the curtains to fall,
the soul, the heart and the you,
don't tell me who?

no matter how much we hide,
we all have a beast inside.
don't you ever yield and quit,
listen, talk and reason with it.

you need to let go,
he's your real foe,
blow by blow,
slow and slow.

if you look into my eyes,
those are full of lies,
if you admit and split wide,
that's where my demons hide.

We all have our inner demons, dear Abhi and this poem indicates their dwelling place within us. But.... we also have our Angels and if we turn to them in our need, they will not let us down. During dark days we are inclined to forget that the spark is within us, the light which is blinding is our spirit, a spark of the divine and if we acknowledge it and allow it to come outside our body, the darkness is at one dismissed in the bright warm glow, our aura is cleansed and we are ready to step back into the human world again. The darkness is just a place where we haven't discovered the light yet, but it's there just waiting for us to invite it in. I love how you invite your reader to listen to the voice within and reason with it. It will guide us towards better things and lead us out of the darkness we have created and back into the light again. A finely penned narrative write. Great depiction, use of metaphor and well expressed feeling as well as excellent good advice. The only thing I would disagree with is that you have inner demons, Abhi!!! You have a very beautiful, warm, loving heart and an even more resplendent spirit within your body. Thank you for writing and for sharing, Abhi. With warmest wishes...

Indeed, we all have a beast inside. Some people wear it externally, too. Yes, and sometimes they run for office.

You can't escape from yourself, can you? You can't lie to yourself, believe how good you are, your past keeps haunting you.
"no matter how much we hide,
we all have a beast inside." hope we can all love that beast and forgive.
thank your for sharing

Quite nice, but I would really like to see a Free Verse rendition of these ideas, which are very interesting.

I love your poem. It's clear that we all have demons and at times we tend to reason with them.

Thank you MrBlack for reading and leaving a review. Glad to hear you liked the poem..
This reminds me of Popeye the sailor man's famous words, "I ams what I am". So sure--we all have a combination of angels and devils within, and the best plan is to hold back the devils as much as possible while freeing the angels. Old age has helped me with that, which is how it is supposed to be, I guess.

no matter how much we hide,
we all have a beast inside.
don't you ever yield and quit,
listen, talk and reason with it.

Now those are some wise words.

Thank you Sam for those wonderful words. Glad to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks for stopping by.
I'm not sure we all have demons, but if a person does, it is wise to admit it and do something about it. "Dance with your demons"...I can't remember who said that, but it is true. Good write. Lydi**

Thank you Lydia for reading and sharing your thoughts on this write. Warm wishes, Abhi.
this poem reminds me so much of a story I teach to my lit students..."Child by Tiger" by THomas Wolfe...
That darkness in each of us...sometimes it stays dormant and sometimes it just explodes.
Nicely penned.
