I guess this speaks to me of someone who is floundering, directionless and perhaps looking to religion or even love for their salvation. Told in a sadly held poem with a progressive descent into the final solution, perhaps suicide? Of course the song as sung by Eric Clapton sprung to mind!

Yes, the tone of poem is melancholic but no-no suicide, that's cowardice. Gentle, kind and wonderful words. We must knock gently on heaven door and thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

Very apt recollection and thank you Fran Marie for reading and sharing a beautiful perspective on this write..
This is one of those songs you can't help but hear in your mind as soon as one reads your title. But I think you use it quite differently than in the song, which is a good thing. I like it when spin-offs from an old popular tune is re-energized in new ways, which is what you've done here. I like that this narrator is sensitive & not afraid to show he doesn't know. Life is about learning & growing & finding out. I would much prefer someone who wants to explore with me than someone who wants to tell me how everything goes (a bad habit of old people like me). Fondly, Margie

As you noticed, the theme and content of the write is completely a departure from the content of the song. And, yeah it's more fun when we don't know much and go about exploring, learning, finding and growing along the way in the process. Thank you Margie, for a thoughtful review. Cheers, Abhi.

I have concert DVD's from all this crossroads festivals, plus all his concerts, & I watch them all the time. I am highly inspired to write after listening to Clapton's guitar playing. As I listen, I ask God to let me write as fluid as Clapton plays . . .

Eric clapton's version is a slow but beautiful soothing guitar work, plays on your soul like wine. GNR version is like fast, pacy with all energy-it's more rock n roll version types. All versions are equally good and have a different feel to it :)
At first read this can be interpreted as a romantic write. When I reached the last line I had to go back and reread because the poem took a different tone. I love it! There is nothing more loving more erotic more freeing more spiritual than communion with God. A beautiful poem Abhilash :)
Thank you Kira! Glad to hear your perspectives on this one..

Dear Abhilash, this poem of yours written some years ago speaks to me of someone who is floundering spiritually. Someone who is seeking reassurance when they feel lost. It is filled with sadness.
