For the old times sake

For the old times sake

A Poem by Abhilash Hegde

let me down this keg of beer
for the old times sake
as I soak in its playful ache.

let me hop onto the nostalgic train
to ride into the youthful fountain
as I lower the life curtain.

let me unclip those unflappable wings
to break the defences of winds
as I drop these veiled blinds.

let me set strong sails
to the seas of known and unknowns
as I pass those waves and milestones.

and, let me just this once
for the old times sake
walk down those memory lanes
collecting of what that remains...

I think as the years roll on we savour the past more than when it was our present and we lived through it. It has a special flavour when we look back on it. A very evocative write, I feel you are emotional about the past and wish to celebrate it, Abhilash? As we get older trips down 'Memory Lane' bring both joy and tears, they are bitter-sweet. You have captured a heart felt longing to revisit the past superbly in this eloquently penned poem, Abhilash. Your visions are captured so finely through excellent depiction and the poem flows effortlessly like 'The River of Life'. A fascinating poem which I have so enjoyed reading. Thank you for sharing Abhilash...

Nice rhyming as the protagonist yearns to recall a time now past by celebrating it with a toast, a familiar train ride before delving into his memory to bring back what was valued then.

This poem is filled with the scent of nostalgia, not a personal one, but one that you have inspired through your words. Nicely penned. Tyfs

As we age, we remember the experiences we had in our younger years and how they made us feel. Those memories get us through some tough times. Your poem is a plea to the great beyond....hoping against hope you will never lose the memories. Very emotional and powerful words. LydI**

Being forgetful, I didn't realize I've read you & liked you quite a bit from as long ago as 3 years ago! I saw your comment on someone else's poem & that made me want to come check out your poetry & I'm glad I did. I very much like the way you look at life & how you express these observations in unusual ways. I love how your way of doing this comes naturally, not just something you do as you write a poem, but it's the way you express yourself in reviewing back-and-forths . . . it's like you're naturally creative, not just plodding along when you express yourself. To me, that's a great starting point for a writer & I wish I had started out being more spontaneously creative like you are (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

A very nice write, Abhilash.

I have noticed the theme of nostalgia pervades a few of your poems. It is a very nice theme to base some writing on, one which can only be tackled by those with age and experience behind them.

This reads like a last wish to me; for one last time, let the writer do these things that have been written about, before his time has passed. Reliving old memories is something that we all do and your poem is a very lovely ode to that. Very nice writing.
