not again!

not again!

A Poem by keith
"

4 dead 9 injured

"
kent state
may 04, 1970

repeating the same mistake
over and over again
embraces the insanities of it all
do we not learn from our mistakes?
do we not learn from our tragic events?
apparently not
most assuredly not

police in riot gear have again
breached the campus of discontent
what happened to the practice of
encouraging conversation
encouraging argument
rather than sanctioned violence

shadows of viet nam
race across the skies
a time of protest
a time of forced conscriptions
drafted into military service
to fight in a war unsanctioned
undeclared
unconstitutional

boys made to become
violent soldiers
trained to kill
or be killed
trained to turn blind eye
to the atrocities of war

the deaths of innocent  souls
deaths of women
deaths of children
the deaths of students
that dared to speak
against war
against the war machine

may 04, 1970
ohio national guard
killed 4
injured 9

kent state university massacre
unarmed protesters
murdered
while exercise their
constitutionally protected
and guaranteed
1st amendment
freedom of speech
freedom to assemble
freedom to address our grievances
to our government

4 killed
9 injured

we do not have to forget
we damn sure do not
have to forgive

we should not
kill again
