lazy daze ...

lazy daze ...

A Chapter by keith

what does it say?

"

'i got a shotgun a rifle and a 4 wheel drive'
UNO

lazy daze
i don't know where
to begin
worse yet how
to end.
perhaps today is it?
but then again?

i am no martha stuart
but i do know my way
around the cocina
i make mean tacos!
better yet?
roun da table!
the older i get
the less defined
my pallet becomes.
i like food!
i like good food!

for the last many years i have had a garden, my own food factory.
there are fruit trees, figs, pears and apples.
spring will find some new peach and plums planted.
my blackberries are bustin loose.
new blueberry bushes will round the fruit bowl out.

my elephant garlic continue to produce a more than enough seasonal crop.
if i could stay away during the spring and keep my sticky fingers off green garlic, there would certainly be more for everyone else.
a new asparagus bed is in the plans.

no longer will i have 50 or 75 tomato plants, 5 heirloom varieties.
damn i do like my mater saniches ... just some duke's, salt & pepper
damn good eats!
don't need 10 different hot and sweet peppers as well
or
baskets of cilantro, parsleys, basils, mints are a thing of the past!
farmers market will have to do without me!
they're grown ... they can handle it!

yep, i'm cutting back.
cutting back on most everything and yep times do suk!
prices more than doubled , as expected
worse part?
some shelves are still empty
wonder how it is in the city?

this growing old is ... a job!
one i did not sign up for.
my self-relance life is slowing down.
i don't need ALL!

i don't need to collect aluminum cans
or copper
or stainless steel again, anymore.
but i do and i will.
someday somebody will break even on gas used to ferry several truckloads of recyclables 60 miles to the nearest buyer.

yeah i kinda live in the sticks
hardwoods pine trees cypress stands
lots of waters ... yep
creeks
rivers
swamps
sound
si, all the above
a small town between 2 destinations, over there and even further over the other way.
busy busy busy highway runs off through the southern side of town with a speed limit that makes it difficult to cross during season.
problem now is there is only one season ... all year, 365.

what happened to the days when tourists were a memory and next season's ... already being cursed!
mind ya not a single business didn't have it's hand held out for a PAY ME NOW! program that did not resist good ole $$$.

economy still suks
suked even before covid
no jobs to speak of
high unemployment
poverty rate higher than many surrounding areas
problem is too far to go for too little pay

anger, racism, rebel/trump flags
still fly in the idiots yards
up the road an hour or so
stands a single ancient single wide trailer
one small tree planted off to the side
flagpole front and center
circle of bricks mark off sacred/holy ground
dixie battle flag flies 24/7/365
fake cannons aimed toward the road

yep, them ignorants live everywhere!

that's enough for today, chores still need to be done!
animals to be fed!
bitchy critters they can be when i'm not running on schedule.
yes, i raise critters ... critters for my table, critters for my freezer and critters to trade for other fine eats!
and that campers is another story in itself.
for another time

perhaps i'll tell ya about my buddies and i going to our first concert
four of us in an old dodge pickup making the 2-hour trip
just to see

JIMI HENDRIX!
did someone say ... orange sunshine?

hey, it is what it is ...

to be continued ...

I like it. Feel like a Texas prayer. I am getting old too Keith. I drink my whiskey in my house and I work on my yard. I have my house pistol and hunting rifle locked-up. I am just rolling the time and I hope. Death ain't looking for me. I was lucky. I saw Hank William Jr. in Austin, Texas. Twice. Thank you for reminding me. I am listening to Motorhead now. "Eat the rich."
