stormy weather welcome

dawn breaks cold
winter's sun struggles
grey tone skies
blanketed
clouds cruise
in rapid fashion
making way for
temps below
freezing

early morn campfire
fends frigid away
momentairily
for today is the day
preparations pay forward
coffee pours hot and strong
wood stacked high
garden put to bed
save for winter
greens and squash

persimmons ripened
as leaves changed
and fallen
shallow puddles glisten
under early light
skinny ice
costumes the ponds
geese and duck flights
continue southward journey

the buck falls
hogs slaughtered
root cellars checked twice
soon the tables
are to be set festive
as
the old man winter
makes known

i'm back
