read, pause, absorb, digest, reactA Poem by keitha repost from way back ... there are times when old is new ...read, pause, absorb, digest, react i write free verse. it is unrestrained by form, content, context or manner presented. free verse is much like an impromptu jazz explosion that often pushes limitations of standard composition and gives much allowance to free expression in a nontraditional manner. it invents the rules it subscribes on the fly. the restrictive rules given to other ways are fine for those lacking unbridled imagination. free verse is a test of one's adherence to the rule of no rule that is itself definitive. one must be conscious of the trap set for failure by the lack of norms. it is not as some suggest, like throwing mud on the wall to see what sticks, ha! it is an unbinding from the sheeple rulings proper form demands ... read, react. free verse offers other ... read, pause, absorb, digest, react. anyone can throw limerick ... 'there was a man from nantuckett,' or 'oh how i love thee so' or even 'a moment like this was proof of higher being' ... ok, if you say so. grab free verse by the horns or balls, it matters not, and enjoy the expressive ride it offers. or stay over there in the confined, lackluster world of sterile and repetitive design. your choice ... my suggestion. free verse offers suggestion rather than presenting as fact. free verse allows invention. an image presented of meadow in full bloom colors from the wildflowers it holds. standard prose demands one run down and pick some, preferably from the midst of. free verse ... it offers suggestion of remaining as one is and breathing in the splendor of it all. block me if you must i really don't give one good goddamn! peace © 2022 keith |
