out of touch

out of touch

A Poem by keith
"

to this newfangled world.

"
out of touch

i am as dinosaur and perhaps out of touch
to this newfangled world.

sadly, a world that one is lost without that
$600 neon smart phone
that attempts escape from one's back pocket.

this need to be connected, why?

what is there that is so necessary?
are we so simple that we must be
entertained at all times?

or am i simply missing the boat?

is there impending disaster on the rise?
will its presence only be known by a 'tweet'?

gosh, it must be me.

i still use turn signals,
open doors as courtesy long forgotten.

maybe it's because i don't like catsup on my burger?

or perhaps i am blinded by the light of pursuit for excellence?

or because i still wear
a collared shirt when out.

don't get me wrong, i like the internet.
it is the education tool television once sought to be.

but it's demand of my time
 is secondary to living
a 3 dimensional life.

and yes,
my temperament is perhaps at best,
crusty.

it is a signature of time.

and time i do not have.
my warranty is passing.

i sometimes will myself
to do what i could many days past,
but i cannot.

i find solace in mindful thought
and appreciate the value of life.

and i am once again ok.

peace pilgrims!

Nice thoughts that, I'm sure, many of us share. I don't like catsup on my burger either! A fun read!

‘it is a signature of time’ - very nice line, mate. And no catsup (sauce where I come from) on a burger? That could well be it! Inconceivable! Connection via digital means versus the act of being present and opening a door for someone. There are some nice thoughts here.

Yes, the internet has its advantages....but we can be too caught up in social media, and we definitely overuse cell phones....which instead of really connecting us, it pushes us further apart....we lose that face to face contact....I still don't own one and never will....
and Facebook....ugh....although since I got rid of it a week after I got it, I miss being able to "like" that Agnes walked her dog and cleaned up the poop.
amen to this piece,
j.

Me too Keith. I watch the new world. Don't read books and rarely talk to each other. I am a old dinosaur too. Thank you for sharing your amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Over the past 5 years I have been forced by necessity, part of my job, to embrace the iPad, iPhone and computers, until this happened I was a confirmed luddite, and once retired will retire back to this state.

I hear ya.
I am past my expiration date.
And okay with that.

I know exactly who I am (shocking I know).
I know what I like, what I believe, what I can except, and what I am willing to do to keep life liberty and family safe.

I don't have to find myself, or recover from a harsh word or two.
So I guess if you're afraid of dinosaurs 🦕 my advice is don't go to Jurassic Park.

Snap. I'm a dinosaur too. A real technophobe. I don't tweet, zoom or own a smart phone either. Now I have to say I am quite taken by your posted image and your fairy lights. Much more my cup of tea. I have fairy lights all over my home :) The Internet is both a blessing and a curse, but definitely in moderation. Entertaining write Keith. Enjoyed.

I'm a kind of dinosaur too, even though I have a smartphone (which is certainly smarter than me!). I get what you are saying here, but unfortunately people like us are swimming against the tide of technological progress! Ah! The good old days - I can still remember them but I fear they are gone for good! Interesting write!
