"Disciplining words" for Albert's Poetry Café : POETRY FORM: Terza Rima

 

In ups and downs, space and time, measured

Years of days dragging, stopping, running or flying

Dreams, ideals building or just falling destroyed

 

Years of giving up hopes or again reinventing

Illusions, flying balloons, bursting into tears

In the merry-go-round of going on living

 

Years of moving with open eyes and ears

Through cloudy days when nothing seams right

Managing to find love even under cold dark fears

 

Years of dilemmas always shining bright

With the sadness or the joy smile of one more day

Trough them all I just wanted to stand up light

 

Look at myself in the eye and honestly say:

I always did the best along my chosen way

Author's Note

Terza rima is a poetic rhyme scheme which involves interlocking rhymes, written in iambic tercets (three lines of verse that follow the unstressed/stressed measure). The rhyme scheme: a chain pattern��is aba bcb cdc ded�and continues this way for as many three-lined stanzas as the poet desires. Four stanzas plus the couplet at the end would be a good suggestion.
