A Fairy Tale

 

The Coronation

 

I have a story to tell for all who might believe.
Tis truth I tell, for a friend I would not deceive.
On a summer night when sleep was elusive to me...
I decided to stroll in the moonlight,

some fresh air to retrieve.

 

The night was clear and warm,
A gentle breeze was blowing.
In walking cross the meadow
I could see no harm...
And yet I'd soon be knowing.

 

Stars shone bright, the moon was full,
The soft grass where I trod was cool.
Fireflies flickered and swooped and danced,
It was a perfect night for romance.

 

I walked on not watching where I was going
But what I was to discover I would soon be knowing.
Then what I stumbled upon,

I had never seen such a thing...
What I had found in my wandering was a fairy ring.

 

The moon was bright enough for me to see
Though I could see them they could not see me.
They danced with abandon as if in a trance,
And I wondered if I could join their dance.

 

They danced in the meadow 'neath the moonlit sky
And as I watched I soon discovered why.
I was an honored observer at this moonlit scene
Of the coronation of their fairy queen.

 

And such a beautiful little creature was she...
Long blond hair and the face of an angel,
It was so very easy to see why she was chosen
As queen for the king to be.
And I knew that I was in the presence of royality.

 

I stood and watched as the night wore on,
The fairy ring in dance around

the queen upon her throne.
I could hear the music of harps and lyres and string,
Though in my mind I had not believed in fairy rings,
After this night, to this day, I'll not deny,
That I watched as they danced in
The meadow 'neath the moonlit sky.

 

Now my friends, I would not lie to you,
For surely my conscience would be hurtin',
And perhaps it was all just a dream,
But I'm telling you one thing for certain...
I'll never ever forget that moonlit scene...
And I'll go back again to find another fairy ring.
