A Girl

A Poem by Light and ashes


She was just a girl,
an angel undercover,
disguised as a frightened child.
Shaken and shell shocked  from the traumas she had lived through.
On her skin, she wore the scars of all the battles she had faced alone,
from the War that she faced all alone.
Life seldom leaves any of us unmarked.
She reviled in the Sunlight.
No matter what, she always smiled.
The darkest night could not put out her inner glow.

Quite inspirational, that her inner glow could not be put out; even by the darkest night. Despite it having been implied, that she has experienced the horror of war. This brought to mind, a brave woman; unbeaten and continuing to strive against the odds of life's bitterness.

She has been traumatised mentally, but such anguish is sadly normal; for those who have been amongst war's seemingly countless victims. And, it's the internal emotional wounds; which casual onlookers will be unable to see...
