I learned apathy from my parents,
but deep down I was never ok with it.
I was never ok with the belief that mediocrity was the best that I could do.
I wanted more out of life.
I wanted more out of living.
The point of life is learning and growing,
if you're not doing that,
then what are you living for?
D0 people have to be intelligent to feel empathy for others? Could be knowledge clutters the brain with facts rather the imaginative state of fiction; therein: 'imagination. the ability to think and feel outside one's supposed capacity. Just a thought snatched out of somewhere or nowhere according to this one's own intelligence or.. empathy. People's idea of living varies according to character and/or personality.. Perhaps. Your poem is interesting, fascinating and inspiring but is that according to the former sentence. You write with a finger to your brow, maybe wondering if there is even more to analyse? Can be good to stop and think before signing a living - life-long? contract.

Apathy is a curse. Apathy can be dangerous. Our parents aren’t always right. We are responsible for our own pathway as adults. Live, love and learn and we will grow. All the best Light and Ashes.
.. I am a firm believer that if one never wants more, then one rarely gets more .. ambition and drive are but two of the things that make us distinctly human and different from any other species .. there is far too much controlling of others in this world at a micro level just as you have already affirmed and at the other macro end of the scale by warmongers and despots .. I also like your near summative line about learning and growing .. but would also add loving .. Kindly Regards to both You and your pen. Neville
Mediocrity is not something to strive for, and am so sorry you learned that from your parents who are supposed to guide to to do your very best in school, and after, and in life in general... All of us must reach our goals and not be hampered by those who feel differently. we must choose our own lives, regardless of others' beliefs. Thank you for sharing
Warmly, B

very right...
and true.
It is a shame, that some people just don't get that.

Thank you for your kind words and for understanding.
A line from the movie "Amsterdam" starring Christian Bale lingers here in my thoughts." Following the wrong God home". It's a long life and you've asked a question that extends beyond capacities to know. If you have hold of the reins chances are you're on the wrong horse and so the story goes. Choose your life. Make it good ... in the end, the simplest things will always keep your dreams warm. I wish you luck. The poem asks and forces me to think so what else is there...something impossible ?..lol. Enjoyed it!!
A bit of inspiration here, and welcome it is because of all the epistles of self pity that populate these pages. We certainly can learn apathy and defeat from others, but we don't have to settle for them. Onward and upward for as long as we breathe!
