That's a great question.
I think we all have a tendency to look back from whence we came. Perhaps it's not as nostalgic with a caterpillar!

I think it might really enjoy embarking on a new journey with wings.
But yes, a little sad. We all become sad when we leave a stage in our lives...but we also
are anxious to break new ground...to just let go, spread our wings, and fly to a new height in life.
