Sitting on a bench in July

Sitting on a bench in July

A Poem by light and ashes

I sit on a bench watching the cars go by busily like thoughts inside a brain. They drive in a circle through the round-about. Each one waits for their turn. They remind me of cells moving through a synapsis. People come in and out of buildings continuing on with this modern day life. I think to myself that we are all cogs inside of the machine. We are all just synapsis traveling through one giant brain.

I can picture exactly what you're saying (strong metaphor) & I love your creative thinking here. I view this as people being "orchestrated" by others -- that's why I chafe to watch so many people be such followers -- whatever it might be -- ether Gods accessing all our info & feeding us our preferences in ads . . . masses who mimic whatever latest political squall is blasted across media . . . or the infernal search for something "out there" (shopping, binging, surfing) to drown out all the true responses being suppressed as society takes over our brains & lives. This one really trips a nerve with me! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

The world and all it holds rushes around us, especially at present. But however its colour and light, it contains each every one of us, leaving shape, scent and mark as gifts or even flaws to the Whole. Can only guess that's how you feel, sitting on that firm bench, not being distracted. Life can be too comfortable at times, there's a need for challenges in any form - to any Form.
Your way of writing is so like a lesson in how to be, if you - reader, want to. But first, says you perhaps, think about my words, thoughts.. then, make your own choice. May well be verY wrong on that! Keep safe.

Thanks for your thoughts emmajoy. :)
The Matrix!
This reminded of the "Brain in a vat" theory...
The way to escape is to never forget that it's all "one giant brain", Connected and one.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts...

Cool! I was unaware of that!
dear Allie... I worked for years in tall buildings
where elevators with no sunny skies took me up and away.
But then in retirement years we become poets and can
travel vicariously with angels to and fro... You have
expressed my sentiments from years ago.
Take time to fly with colorful Kites with no
destination... except where your mind takes you.

Allie, another original work. I've never read "synapsis" in a poem, and it works here. I had similar thoughts when I worked in Washington, DC, watching the herds drive to and from the Metro trains every morning and afternoon. Some days I'd sit on a bench until the rush was over, and wonder if anyone else realized how ridiculous we look, how insignificant we are on this planet, mere specks hurrying from place to place for a paycheck and lifestyle that won't matter at the end. I think you captured that as well as anyone in fewer words.

I do understand the poem. If the world stopped. Would the world change? I watch people and I wonder. Are we mice running in a endless cage. Thank you dear Allie for sharing the amazing poetry.

You are welcome dear Allie. Have some fun and be safe.
Allie, you have written quite a lovely and contemplative poem here. Yes, we are all interconnected, neurons and synapses firing individual thoughts that are orchestrated into a mass consciousness. Your metaphors are so on-point and your poem is wise and very well- penned.

Thank you so much Annette!
Your sitting on a bench in July Allie, certainly brought about some deep thinking. If I'd been sitting there, no doubt I would have been concentrating much too hard on an ice-cream in my hands. I like the way your mind travelled. Yes we are all cogs in a huge wheel. We all play a very small part in the overall picture. My mind wandered too when I read your words. I saw ants trailing everywhere.
