Distance

Distance

A Poem by light and ashes

The distance between the person I was when I was born to the person I am now.

It's the distance between trauma and the soul in it's truest form.

I've never read "distance" in this context, certainly not in a poem. It's fresh and appealing. It's also highly introspective and reveals a vulnerability that appeals to readers. Readers want to see themselves in the poem, and everyone can relate to what you've written here. Obviously, only you know that distance, and it can't be measured in any system we know.

I don't write long single verse poems and see few outside Instagram and other social media sites. That doesn't make bad or wrong. It's just different. And, after I read it several times, I talked myself out of suggesting to break it into two verses. Lastly, I'm with Jacob on the Author's Note. I think the reader will get there on their own, and sometimes a few minutes to think about it is a good thing. Still, if it works for you that's all that matters. Another fine short poem.

I think i might have added your author's note as a second line in the poem...

read them together and see what you think...
