THE ANIMAL POEM

THE ANIMAL POEM

A Poem by angel
"

A poem containing dozens of animals' names

"
Kangaroos, elephants, tigers and baboons,
Mongooses (mongeese?) koalas and some loons.
Monkeys and rhinoceroses,(or, um, rhinoceri?)
Lions and gorillas, and some hippopotami.
Zebras and some anteaters; Bactrian camels, too...
More than animals enough to fill the biggest zoo!
Spectacled bears and owls,opossums,and some shrews.
Whales, and snakes, and sheep,(a ram, and his mate, the ewe).
California sea lions, black-tailed prairie dogs,
Grizzly bears and ocelots; a couple of warthogs.
Bat-eared foxes,hedgehogs, a pair of kinkajous,
Polar bears and river otters,meerkats, and some gnus.
Wolves, Tasmanian devils,giraffes, and wallabies;
Some ring-tailed lemurs, and a platypus or three.
Raccoons, skunks,chipmunks,beavers, otters, rats;
Lynxes, leopards, pumas, and domestic cats.
Orangutans and chimpanzees,marmosets and rabbit
Please, somebody stop me! Can't kick the rhyming habit!

I have the same two obsessions: animals & rhyming! This is delightful & playful & entertaining with strong rhyme & rhythm, as well as clever asides thru-out to break up the "list" aspect of naming so many animals. I had a similar orgasmic rhyming session about animals in a poem about being on an African safari . . . http://www.writerscafe.org/writing/barleygirl/2035118/ . . . if you want to see how much we resonate! I love these masterful fun pieces! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

A real fun read
Will they all fit on the Ark?
Actually, my grandchildren won't listen to poetry, neither will their parents

Once the rhyming bug hits you, it becomes addictive angel. I was interested to read the plural of these species. Now the platypus has me well and truly stumped. A fun read for little kids and the bigger variety too. You have many animals in your poetic zoo. :)
