Paint Me

Paint Me

A Poem by angeldzik

Would you paint me a novel?
if I asked

sweet like summer
winds and tall grass

would you kiss me a letter?

one with enough letters to last
in black ink

if you knew I’d kiss you one back?

would you write me a portrait?

spilled ink on a canvas

with names of your lost lovers hidden in dust

and etches of black and white
if I drank enough alcohol to get through the night?

would you lie to me?
so the river won’t throw waves

crashing against the stone cold banks

if I told you the truth

give you my word

would you hide?

If I gave you a smile

would you let the tears fall to your dimples
and give one back?

Would you write me a journal

filled with your mistakes
and prayers to the higher spirits

layered with sketches
pictures of your better days

and words scratched out in corners
sat beside a temporary date

if I let my lips rest against yours?

would you tell me stories?
of your life

covered with secrets
lost in winter blankets

Just to feel my skin pressed against yours?

Would you let me wear your baggy jumpers

so I could smell your cologne without
having to touch you

just to feel comfortable?

and finally

would you love me unconditionally for as long

as you can see

because I will love you till the end

darling

just you and me
eternity.
