The Sad Song

The Sad Song

A Poem by Victoria Scott

Where are you going my child?

What have I done that made you run away?

You made the world open up to new adventures everyday

But the crimson stain on our hearts

Will remind us

Will remind us

Little boy, come and see the sun

See the color rise into the sky

And you’ll hear a distant bird calling

Sing, “Its call is far but not far enough to reach home to her,

But in the storm she might hear.”

Yet the sun retreated back into the sea

And the moon hid his face in the trees

As the darkness engulfed my heart,

It took yours,

It took yours.

Sweet darling, Apple of my eye

Never bid your loving heart goodbye

For your smile lights up my world

And the ghosts retreat without a very word

You shine so bright

And even late you are nights light.

But even there are clouds in the day

And the storms rage out into the night

And the smile leaves your face

Like a memory forgot

Or a love story erased

Don’t leave me now

Don’t leave me now.
