Not MeA Poem by Athena AngelRemember who you areI'm still her For so long I thought I lost her I put so much of her into others Till there was nothing left And there's a smile that I thought I'd lost There's a ghost there I forgot It's not me, it's not me There's a tree standing among ash and rubble There's a house I called home so long ago There's someone you'll never really know They made it too hard, and then they made it too easy And you saw all she could be It's not me, it's not me There's a dark sky I used to sit under every single day I'd hope and I'd pray for the rain to go away But it stayed and it stayed Until it was who I became They could still see the grey clouds in my eyes They could still see who was fading It's not me, it's not me Then it happened again They saw an avalanche crush me My heart was caving From the pressure coming from every side they were on Every side but mine It's easy to create an image when you only have one shade I couldn't become the one they had made Don't come back, no not today Don't you know it's too late, it's too late Phone calls made and lies dripping from your lips another sinking ship words thrown like knives Into a heart that only meant to love But you love and let die I never know how to let go quickly But this time it was easy © 2018 Athena Angel |
