A Poem by Athena Angel
"

An old one about not knowing how to tell someone how you feel for fear of losing them

"

Did you mean it? You ask

Did you mean it?
what is it? What is this?

No answers,

I’m not a saint, and I don’t complain

I like the way I look through your eyes

There’s so much running through my mind

Feeling like we were running out of time

Feeling like we had an eternity

You needed to know, sitting there asking me

Did you mean it?

did you mean it? You ask

did you mean it?

no but not in the way you think

maybe this was a test

to see if I could feel what it’s in my head

I didn’t feel it, I felt fear

Don’t you know, I won’t let this be broken

I will protect this, and in my mind I can hear

Did you mean it?

Did you mean it? You ask

Did you mean it?

Recognizing a pain in my chest

It’s not what you think, not what you need

And didn’t you worry about what’s at risk?

Didn’t you think about that too? What we could lose?

Wide eyes, in the blurry lights, late night

things suddenly felt different, something didn’t fit

I didn’t know what to say, looking at your face

Did you mean it?

Did you mean it? You ask

Did you mean it?

Misreading, mishearing, misleading

No correction, curiosity

It’s my fault, leading you by a string

Just to see if you would keep going

And I can’t be who you see, I’m not what you need

And now I sit here asking,

What did this mean?

Did you mean it? You ask

Did you mean it?

I love you too much to hurt you

I won’t let you be someone else I had to lose

Some things can’t be changed, or tainted

Never saw it coming, I wasn’t prepared

But I’m telling you now, I didn’t know how before

I’m telling you now, you deserve more

You deserve something real, something that’ll set you free

Now I’m the one asking

What did this mean?

Well, I'm shocked to apparently be the first to comment. I like this. I like the style and I like the focus of this write. It's ambiguous of course, but that makes it easy too identify with. I think we can all relate. You did good.
