Just KidsA Poem by Athena AngelA poem about the pastSometimes you’re the weakest heart, when you don’t have anything to give No words could soothe your wounds, When
they’re the one you inflict And maybe we were just kids, not
knowing a thing; the future
was never a thought in our minds Everything was so real then, nothing was true, but it all
existed, you can’t forget it We lived right then and there, in the moment, then we
started thinking too much, too often Maybe we are kids, even now Hushed voices in the middle of the night, don’t worry they can’t hear us talking about our
boring lives There was nothing to say, when all we did was lie, and scream Notes slipped underneath the door, or left
outside on the front porch Running around, acting scared, scared of
the truth, scared of what our words could do Maybe we grew up too fast, trying to
get away, trying to escape what holds us together, out
shattered youth We can’t forget what we’ve been through Maybe we were just kids, not
knowing a thing; the future
was never a thought in our minds Maybe we are kids, even now What should I say? Which lie sounds better to you? Which one is closer to the truth? When we
ran out of excuses, when we ran out of room to love, out of
room to lose, out of
time What is love, when we pretend? It was real then, is it real now? Maybe we are kids, maybe we are kids, maybe we
are still kids Scared of the world, scared to love Still kids, still kids, still kids I was the weakest heart, I had nothing more to give. © 2017 Athena Angel |
