People Pleaser

People Pleaser

A Poem by Angela Payne

I am a people pleaser,

A compilation of what others think I should be.

I strive for perfection,

But always find a new definition of the word.

As originality is striped from me,

As is my personality.

I am a people pleaser,

Always an agreer, never a leader.

I search for self correction,

But only find the answers that others have created.

As assimilation consumes who I am,

As does it displace my creativity.

I am a people pleaser,

A nothing, a void.

I seek the fragments I have lost in becoming someone else,

But can’t fit the pieces in their original spots.

As I contemplate what it really means to be myself,

As do others stop trying to change me.

Sounds good!! Nice poem. All verses are beautiful but the IInd one is awesome to me. You've well captured the truth in few words. Great job!

This is a remarkable poem, and I read it to be a feminist piece. Girls especially are socialized to be people pleasers and obedient. Even I as being raised by a single mother can relate to this. Excellent work, deep introspection, social relevance +++
