Wilderness

Wilderness

A Poem by AJ Douglas

My purpose in life eludes me
as I desperately seek beauty
amid all the ugliness of this
wasteland of chaos and confusion
standing shoeless on shores
of abandoned beaches rife with
washed up irrelevant revelations
hacking my way through the brambles
and thorns of a wilderness with no map
to guide people such as me without
a claim to fame and the freedom
money grants the fortunate few
stumbling as I pass the bleached bones
of those who came before me
the empty sockets of their skulls
staring menacingly mocking my tenacity
