Oneiros

Oneiros

A Poem by AJ Douglas

I placed your corpse into the crematory
of my consciousness as I sang a solemn dirge
before turning my back and falling silent
forlorn as the flames consumed your flesh
leaving behind brittle bones I pulverized
into powder blending it with the ashes
pondering over the proper place to scatter them
perhaps the summit of the mountain we scaled
or the celestine sea that together we sailed
westward into the sunset while serenely I slept
vainly wishing I would never wake
