Sapphire Eyes

Sapphire Eyes

A Poem by AJ Douglas

The insincere fear me
for these sapphire eyes see
through walls like windows
past the pantomimes
the masks of mendacity
peeling away pretenses
each layer of illusion
meant to mislead the masses
until they stand before me
naked as a newborn
cursing my acuity
