A Poem by andy groe

i’ve found my pocket

full again

i thought the words had gone,

but still they lay

with true intent

and are not yet withdrawn.

they settled down

snug deep inside

as did the three before,

but this time they

sit in a round

and sound like something more.

they told me of

a story passed

and whispered to me how

it could become

forever true

if i let tell it now.

there is and was

a darling girl

that i met long ago

and if i took

a single chance,

i’d learn to love her so.

but for a time

it was not right,

and we went sep’rate ways,

though now and then

our paths did cross

in silly childhood days.

and so her hope

began to fade

as i quite distant drew,

for i was blind

and could not see

beyond my muddled view.

then just before

our time was lost

came forth the final chance

of what could be

the finest court

and timelessness’ romance.

so then began

the chapter next

where two paths met as one

which brought us to

this very spot

and hid us from the sun.

the night was filled

with dance and joy

and music well-rehearsed.

i held her close

beneath the rain

and love was spoken first.

then time moved on

and spun us ‘round

and ‘round its own ballet

until again

with eager hope

it turned us here today.

now that same girl

stands right before

the boy and pocket words,

while he prepares

to question her

beneath the winter birds.

i pause at first

to catch her eye

upon a bended knee,

“my darling

nataleine june cupp

will you marry me?”

Uhm, there is a mistake. In the 'original' poem, cupp was spelled 'cup.' Just sayin'.... ;)
