back down southA Poem by andy groesometimes i wish we could go courting in the small town country nights, sneak out late and go swimming down at the lake, piled in the back of an old pick-up and getting drunk off laughter. i wish you could watch me play beneath the diamond lights and i could ask you to turn and twist and twirl at the crowded town dance hall. i wish to see your perfectly sweet sundress and you my favorite straight-legged jeans. i wish to breathe in the warm summer nights, our stolen kisses behind the your father's barn, and your hand inside mine.
but even though we can never be back down south, you could still be my country darling, and i will love you all the same. © 2011 andy groeReviews
