unfinished suite

unfinished suite

A Poem by andy groe

i run my fingers

up and down

the smooth keys,

silently working my way through

a calm and unfinished suite.

both black and white keys

meet my fingers

as the delicate meloday

flows from my memory,

falling short of my ears,

but alive nonetheless.

i lightly tap a single key,

the sole height of a stretching run,

and pause,

before then rolling and crossing

my way back down toward

the next measure.

i close my eyes to match the sound,

empty and beautiful.

my head dips down,

feeling for emotion

and the perfect touch.

i work my way past the noted page,

if one there was,

and slowly, patiently,

i find the final chord,

the final moment and ending rest.

a masterpiece finished at last,

hushed and still,

yet without song or tumbled keys.
