and so winter shall come again

and so winter shall come again

A Poem by andy groe

and so i walked down

on stolen time

through the fridgid air

and out across the powdered green.

the barren, leafless trees

stretched up and out,

whispering in the winter wind,

telling me that i had wandered

far enough,

and though i wished

to have stood at the water's edge,

i listened.

i looked down to my feet,

their prints marking my path,

unthreatened by the light snow that still fell.

then i looked out again

over the stillness of the rolling hills,

careful to not make a sound

for fear of upsetting the peaceful night.

what beauty in solitude.

what contentment in silence.

in that moment,

the newborn winter was mine

and i breathed it in.
