for the fall (is ending)A Poem by andy groethe colored leaves floated down around me, hanging on the chilled, gentle breeze, crisp and full of autumn. they danced, this way and that, above the forest floor, seemingly alive with what was left. they covered the worn path and although i knew the way, i allowed myself to stray. soon i found myself at the foot of a knotted tree, barren and alone amongst friends, and so i climbed it. i climbed up in through its fingers and nestled myself inside its palm. i kept it company for awhile as we both willed the clouds across the sky. but this was his home, it was not mine, and so i had to take my leave. but first i hugged the tree and told him i would miss his company. then finally, after the sun had dipped just below the sky, i wandered home, feet crunching through the same leaves that had fallen before. © 2010 andy groe |
