am1320A Poem by andy groesit with me tonight in a low lit kitchen and sip a cup of coffee. i'll bring a deck of cards so we can pretend to play and you can almost not notice while i quietly watch you. pull your knees close and settle down in your tired wooden chair, smile to me behind your sleepy eyes. if you turn on the old dial radio, we can listen to melodies from another time and sing along with the ones we know. maybe, just maybe, i can ask you to dance. i'll look down to your toes before holding you close and turning across the cracked tile floor. and when the song has finished dancing, i'll steal a kiss right from under your nose. we can sit back at the creaky antique table, and you'll choose the chair next to mine. i'll put my arm around you as you lean to me, and we'll watch the oven clock slowly tick until half past two. © 2010 andy groe |
