Rhymes of of a Sociological Nature.....

Rhymes of of a Sociological Nature.....

A Poem by Andrew N. Farrens
"

Inspired by the robbery and shooting death of an old man in broad day-light in a well-known city park......Stockton's homicide rate is out of control.

"

Baby, I tell you
I don’t mean to complain

Oh yes, it is tragically insane and irrevocably mundane

But I really cannot think of any other way to refrain

From getting this bad craziness off my congested chest

But I’m not passing the blame

I know what has to be done, the end of Karmic fun

Staying true to myself keeps the things inside my head sane

We all know the old saying that pain

Is weakness leaving the body and like a junkie kicking the habit,
I suffer through the personal shame

But, baby, it’s so damned hard to be positive

In a city where you can die for simply wearing a gold-chain

A place where you really have to worry

About some emotionally crippled youngster’s murderous game

And y’all can speak about prideful stupidity

But sure as Kazinsky is my alias name

These weak-minded “gangsta’s” are going to have to kill me dead

If any sort of ill-gotten monetary profit is to be gained

So, go ahead, shoot me with that gun

But you b******s better have practiced your aim

So that the job gets done.....right

I wouldn’t experience a meaningless death

Under the full moon of an otherwise dark night

But until then, my misguided young friend,

When such danger is within my sight

I absolutely guarantee that

Drew Kazinsky will put up a fight

Yes, this very well could mean that I might die

Such behavior, though, I do not consider suicide

I’m just protecting what is mine

In this insidious City of Stockton,

The filthy Mudville of the two-oh-nine (209)

In the last year, due to the economy, many Jerk Chicken Ass Punk Bitches have been snatching gold-chains, culminating in the murder of a sixty-two year old man in broad daylight. This was the inspiration for these rhymes.....

i am so enraged by the whole "gang" situation in this country. i feel it should be federal law to criminalize gangs and gangsters, putting them away for life for even belonging to a gang.they are a bunch of pansy pantywaist little punks who don't have the intestinal fortitude to face the rigors of life and take responsibility for themselves and their own lives. victimizing the weak and the old...ooh, what a big bad man you are!!!! all you are is a pathetic useless excuse for a life . a waste of human flesh. (sorry, i was directing this at the gangsters and got carried away). your writing skills are so effective that i feel personally involved by the time i have read it. great job!

A serpent in paradise, a little rain on a parade and trigger happy in dreamland. Did you know Andrew, America has the largest per capita prison population in the world?

No safety in any big city. Crime is always near. I live near Detroit. 50% of people with no jobs. Desperate people will do bad things. I pray for jobs and hope. Hard to find. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and the story of the poor man. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.

Favorite word pairing: "irrevocably mundane"- wonderful

"But, baby, it’s so damned hard to be positive

Very poignant section. It really is crazy. There are so many young people just killing eachother off before they have the chance to understand all there is in life. I think most of us live in cities like this, I know I do.

I like the sentiments at the end. It feels like when I say: and who do you think you are that you have power over me? Just because you've got a crew that says you do? F**k that dude. I'm a free person. I won't go down without a fight either.

I don't believe in starting fights...it just seems stupid to me. Not fighting back seems equally as stupid. I'll never start a fight, but if someone else does...I won't just stand there...I will fight back. Going down fighting, is the only way to go down. I also don't understand why they had to kill that man; they could have just taken his chain and left him alone. I don't think I'll ever understand people’s stupidity. Well written and clearly thought provoking.
