Siamo (We are)

I really like this poem I wrote in November 8th, 2011. Every time I read it I always think of Cesare Pavese, one of the most important Italian writers/poets of the 20th century.

Come foglie cadiamo
al suolo consumato.
Siamo anime, siamo la luna
e il sole di un paesaggio
fumettato: io biondo, tu argentea.

Posiamo come statue sudate
e provate dagli anni che passano.
Ma lo scalfire del marmo
non basta a lenire
il sentimento che ci lega
in questo magico mondo fatato.

Siamo menti proiettate ad un
futuro condiviso, gerani
in un campo di margherite.
Siamo come neve, sugli aceri
passeri di un nido scoperto dalle
intemperie di una natura che tutto
puo' e nulla fa.

Un tutt’uno in due, ecco cio' che siamo.
Leghe di un solo metallo.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION: 

[Like leaves we fall on the worn ground. We are souls, we are the moon and the sun of a comics landscape: I’m blonde, you’re silver. We pose as sweaty statues, affected by passing years.  But the marble scratching ain’t enough for soothing the feeling that binds us in this fairy magic world. We’re minds heading for a shared future, geraniums in a daisy field. We’re like snow, sparrows on maple trees, where their nest is ruined by a dangerous nature that can do everything, but does do nothing. One in two, that’s what we are. Alloys of a sole metal.]
