CHAPTER TODAY

CHAPTER TODAY

A Poem by Matt DeFranco

Today is the day....

Today is the day that I open my eyes

And shed the fear that dims my light

This day nor any will I succumb

To the mediocre life

Have we blindly come?

What leads what guides, oh conviction

Our deepest resent, our own affliction

Do we strangle or hold frail our inmost beliefs

Will we ever understand that our differences compel us to seek

So shave the ominous prowl from our glory, fate...

...or destiny or sake

And may this life not merely take

Shall we walk in oblivion and forever

know

That intelligence is infinite

Only as we allow it to grow

May skin not merely be skin..

But soul meted within

And apart from all creed may we never feed

The idea that we are the only beings

That in these short days of existence

We do not fall to the fallacy that.. there was nil before nor hereafter

And always remember

The most potent medicine is laughter

May we love this day for what it brings

The days we cry and the days we sing

This day and forever after

For this day is our first chapter..
