Black Eyes

Black Eyes

A Poem by Matt DeFranco

She described the man to them...

"His presence could shift your
being
It was like flashes of the most radiant
light mingled with undefinable
obscurity.
He was merely a human
but transcended
every formality of nature.
And gloom shadowed his
words
that penetrated sorrow.
A sage?
A savant?
Afflicted, I felt.
A genuine smile
that breached rationality,
it was as if he knew something
that all of us didn't...
...profoundly found
yet irresolutely lost.
He made you want to
believe,
he challenged you to
see.
He looked for the answer
of you
and saw the beauty
in you, so deep
He stayed....
He wrecked...
He left....
now love for me,
inept...
...as black his eyes in depth."
