The Prisoner

The Prisoner

A Poem by Matt DeFranco

The prisoner rests..
mistaken by a thousand
morals,
depleted of proof
prevailing
All his hope exchanged
for whimsical
conceptions
And burning doesn't
burn like
his,
streaking and constantly
alive
Wherewithal he knows his
existence, untuned and
tamed
His fortune shined
before his
last..
..conscious misdeed
Shattered by the
the suffering of
abused
values
And yet he claims,
right to live
Imparting his will,
evoking the
magnitude
of his
vitality
Beseeching all
of himself
to awaken the
man
within

And so he opens his
eyes...
