The Addict's WalkA Poem by Matt DeFranco
Tried beyond submission
and yet walks in the shadows Sometimes cars drive by and he thinks "maybe they'll save me, maybe they'll change me" It's always dark and he's alone there's no smile that can overcome it, the muse of a thousand lies, a thousand tears at nothing And he cries cause he knows that he can't blame the moon or the sun but only his eyes and what they've created No more darkness for demons and certainly less light, what little rest on poles on random street corners He hears voices of residents and wonders if joy still exists however far distant The dregs of past torture drain from his steps infecting the streets with madness and even more incivility, arousing foes There is no pity too bold for his arrest, forth-trying and failing If only he could live another day in the real world try to to see what their eyes see and walk with them He's cold as rain drops accompany his tears "How did I get so far and where am I walking to" The fog's so thick there is no wisdom, no kindness, no truth but a mist of nothingness to which apocalypse appeals Yet there's an odd comfort within his destitution With nothing he can't fear losing, with nothing he knows he can yet find something.. ...something to change him something he can destroy or live for. Then he opens the door... Matthew Andrais D eFranco © 2014 Matt DeFrancoReviews
