Whatever happens, happens for good

Whatever happens, happens for good

A Story by Siddhartha Dhar Choudhury

I was very excited; it was my first aerial journey. Since, childhood it was my dream to travel in an aero plane one day. That day had finally come. I was to go to Boston for attending a meeting. I was happy like a little child who after getting a new toy feels happy. I started my packing; I had to stay there for a week. I practiced speaking in American accent, further I searched the internet to find the places of interest in Boston. Another reason for my happiness was that the WWE matches were going to take place in Boston on the same day when I was to reach. So, I bought online tickets for that also, as I loved WWE since my childhood days. My happiness crossed all limits, I was just mad; I thought all of it was a dream. Finally, the auspicious day came and I was ready to depart. With my luggage I came out of home. The road was empty, as if it was mid-night. My neighbor told me that there was a strike in the city. I was disappointed, sad and helpless. Suddenly, I remembered that I had a phone number of the taxi driver who was the head of taxi drivers association in our city. I called him, and requested him to drop me to the airport. He said that he would send a taxi. After some time, the taxi came, I loaded my luggage and sat in the taxi and I felt a great relief. “My God; I thought my dream of the aerial journey would remain a dream “, I said to myself. “Don’t worry Sahab, I would not let your dreams crushed, we will reach on time, the driver said to me. An old man was crossing the road, the taxi was going swiftly and the driver could not control the taxi and hit the man. But he did not care “Don’t worry Sahab, these old men don’t know how to walk”, he said. But my spirit told me that I was not that cruel to leave an old man in this condition to fulfill my dream. I told him to stop, I got the old man into the taxi and told the driver to rush to the hospital. After several hours when the old man recovered completely I dropped him to his house. “Thank you my child, it is because of you that today I am alive”, he said to me. My flight had gone two hours earlier. I returned home, and I experienced a mixed feeling, that of sorrow and joy. Joy was because I helped an old man and sorrow because my dream could not be fulfilled. I unpacked my luggage and told my boss the reason I could not go and he too was proud of me. I switched on the television and the breaking news of the day was " “Today Airbus A380, Air India going to Boston crashed due to extreme bad weather, no one in the flight survived”. And I told myself, “Whatever happens, happens for good.”
